Activities

After the regular meetings of the so-called Co-ordination Forum (1984-1990) the Hungarian Arts Festivals Federation was finally created in 1990 and has actually some 50 members. Nearly all professional art festivals joined in the organisation. Most of the members are (classical) music festivals or multidisciplinary festivals with a strong music part.

The Federation is active in PR (the first booklet presenting the member festivals appeared in 1995, some new issues came out in 1998 and 2000) and in lobbying. Meetings are usually held between festival representatives and important legislative bodies (e.g. with the Cultural Committee of the Parliament, the National Tourism Board, the National Cultural Fund.)

Among others the Federation is member of the Hungarian Music Council from 1990 and joined in the European Festivals Association as an associate collective member in 1998.

HAFF organises study-tours to European Festivals Association member festivals (Salzburg, Ljubljana in '97, Prague in '98 and various British festivals '99).

The two yearly assemblies serve also programme co-ordination, information exchange etc. besides official matters. Some sub-groups are existing too. The Board of the Federation has 7 members, all of them directors of significant festivals, different people are in charge to follow the international contacts, the regional activities, and the open-air theatres.
